About the Greater New Haven Celiac Group
The Greater New Haven Celiac Group (GNHCG) of Connecticut was organized in 1996 through the combined efforts of founders Beverly Chevalier and Jane Trevett. GNHCG is Chapter #75 and a subunit of the Celiac Sprue Association (CSA/USA, Inc.), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our New Haven Chapter has over 300 members including a dedicated board of directors, advisors and many helpful and caring volunteers. The Children's Group is an adjunct of the GNHCG and is specifically geared to the unique needs of children with celiac disease, their parents and families.
Have you recently been diagnosed with celiac disease? Do you have CD or DH and recently moved to Connecticut and want to find a local support group? Who can you turn to? The Greater New Haven Celiac Group is the answer!
Our members have the opportunity to attend 5-6 events throughout the year. Some of the past events include seminars by noted physicians, dietitians and authors. The only treatment for CD & DH is a gluten-free (GF) diet. Because GF food is our medicine, in the past we’ve organize pot luck dinners, how-to-make-your-own-pizza party, Mexican & Italian dinners, restaurant dinners and GF sampling events for our members to participate in and enjoy. In addition, children with CD and their families enjoy several fun GF activities through the Children’s Group. The GNHCG has organized Walkathons to raise money for research, education, awareness and children’s scholarships for celiac camp.
Through our publication, the Celiac Newsletter, we’ll keep you informed about medical information, celiac related events in the area, GF restaurants, books, recipes and product information. The highlight of your membership will be the opportunity to socialize, meet and make lasting relationships with other celiacs in a safe, GF environment. Become a member.
