September 2010 - List of Art Supplies and Common Household Items
GNHCG Children's group Chair, Karen Stemler, has researched and compiled a list of children's art supplies, cosmetics, lip balms, lotions, sanitizers, sunscreen, wipes, detergents & cleaning products. While we all are aware that ingredients in any item can change at any time, this PDF list will give you good information to think about when making purchases.
Stemler states "Nathan, our 3 yr old son, was diagnosed with Celiac Disease 1 year ago. We continue to avoid gluten in all foods and other products. Now that he has become interested in using various art supplies, I started to question if there was gluten in those products too. Play-doh has wheat listed on it's container, but I questioned the other art supplies. So, I looked for some GF alternatives and found the following sources. I am hoping that as a group we can educate other parents, teachers, daycare providers, and others so they can purchase these products or other GF art products. I also have listed gluten-free household items. Wheat and other gluten containing ingredients are often found in household items and could put someone at risk. The PDF contains some options to try with your children and others who need to avoid gluten." Click here for List.
